U.S. President Grover Cleveland unveiled the new Statue of Liberty on October 28, 1886. Millions of immigrants have seen this important landmark on their way to a new life in America and have written histories about their arrival and about their families.
A celebration will be held on October 28, 2006 to commemorate the 120th birthday of the Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation is sponsoring a Statue of Liberty Picture Contest for elementary school-aged children. It’s a fun and creative way to involve kids in genealogy and history. The contest starts on Thursday, 12 October 2006 and ends on Wed, 31 Jan 2007.
